Leadership Alignment

The degree to which executives operate in sync on priorities, decisions, and execution. Leadership misalignment is the #1 integration killer in M&A. Measured from behavioral signals: calendar overlap, decision concurrence, communication patterns between leaders, and goal-setting coherence.

Why it matters

Misaligned executives erode value through duplicated decisions, reworked initiatives, and paralyzed cross-functional projects. When a CEO and head of product disagree on GTM strategy but lack a forcing function to resolve it, teams execute hedged bets that satisfy nobody. Leadership misalignment is the single most predictive indicator of failed M&A integration and post-close value leakage. It also predicts talent retention—employees resign fastest when they perceive leadership is fractured.

How Zoe reads it

Zoe measures alignment from calendar overlap (are execs in the same decision-making meetings?), decision concurrence (do leaders follow through on stated priorities?), and communication patterns (do leadership pairs initiate cross-functional work?). The C-Suite dimension tracks goal-setting coherence and follow-through velocity. Declining alignment signals often appear 6-12 weeks before financial performance drops, making it a leading indicator for portfolio risk.
